BASAIR supplies elastic lappato abrasives for ceramic tile polishing lines, especially for fully polished glazed tiles, porcelain tiles and large slab polishing lines.
These abrasives are used after earlier surface preparation to refine the tile surface, remove polishing marks and create semi-polished, glossy, soft-gloss or matte visual effects according to the required finish.

The grit sequence directly affects surface roughness, polishing marks, gloss development and final surface appearance. A complete lappato abrasive sequence usually covers rough polishing, medium polishing, fine polishing and final gloss finishing.
| Processing Stage | Common Grit Options | Purpose and Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Rough polishing | 80# / 100# / 120# / 150# / 180# | Fast cutting, surface mark removal and initial defect correction |
| Medium polishing | 240# / 300# / 400# / 500# / 600# | Removes rough polishing marks and begins semi-gloss surface development |
| Fine polishing | 800# / 1000# / 1200# / 1500# | Refines fine marks, improves flatness and increases transparency |
| Final gloss finishing | 2000# / 3000# / 5000# / 6000# / 8000# | Produces high-gloss mirror-like finishing when used with the right process |
Elastic lappato abrasives are designed with a flexible bonding structure so the abrasive can maintain stable contact with the tile surface during high-speed polishing.
The elastic body is commonly based on modified resin systems combined with flexible polymer or rubber-based materials. This structure allows slight elastic deformation during rotation, helping reduce edge chipping and improve contact stability.
The working layer can include diamond abrasive and polishing additives such as chromium oxide, cerium oxide or aluminum oxide depending on the required surface effect. The purpose is to improve cutting performance, polishing efficiency and final surface consistency.
On automatic continuous polishing lines, elastic lappato abrasives are selected according to machine speed, tile surface and required final effect.
| Operating Item | Reference Value |
|---|---|
| Polishing line speed | Up to 35 m/min depending on machine and tile type |
| Single set service life | Approx. 750-1000 sqm for high-end resin abrasive sets |
| Finish flexibility | High-gloss, medium-gloss, soft-gloss and matte effects can be adjusted by process |
| Suitable process | Automatic continuous ceramic tile polishing line |
